ALOO CHANA CHAAT RECIPE
Aloo chana chaat salad is a pakistani street food which is a complete meal in itself. this is a veriation of chana chaat with the addition of potatoes.
if you are still wondering what exactly is aloo chana chaat then chana means gram/chickpea and aloo means potato. the salad is drizzeled with more sweet yogurt. sour and spicy sauce, onions and herbs. In other words, it tastes like a mouth full of flavour and texture in every bite. yum!
INGREDIENTS
Chickpea Potato Gravy
* 3 cups cooked gram(chickpea) or 1 cup dried gram(chickpea)
* 1 cup sliced potatoes, or as needed
* 1 Teaspoon cumin powder
* 1 Teaspoon red chilli powder
* 1 Teaspoon of turmeric
* 1 Teaspoon salt, or as needed
* 3 Cups of water, or more as needed
Yogurt Sauce
* 1 cup yogurt
* 1 tbsp sugar
* 1 tbsp licking spice
Others
* 2 cups tamarind sauce
* 1 chopped onion
* 1 chopped tomatoe
* 2 cups chopped coriander leaves
* 2 green pepper, chopped, optional
* Lemon juice
* Papri
* Chat spice
* Red pepper flakes
INSTRUCTIONS
- Put all the gram potato gravy ingredients in a pot and cook on medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes till the potatoes are soft. Remove from heat and sety aside.
- Mix all the curd sauce ingredients in a bowl. Site on one side.
Sort by:- Put hot gram and potato gravy in a serving bowl.
- Cover with 3-4 tablespoon sweet yogurt and 1 tablespoon tamarind sauce.
- Finish with onion, tomatoes, red pepper, lemon juice, and peppers, (if used).
- Garnish with chaat masala, redchilli flakes and crunchy crunchy paparika.
- Serve imediately.
NOTE:
Gram(chickpea): use good quality fresh dried gram and if cooked from scratch it is not old. older people stay tough aftercooking. For the softest gram, soak the dried gram overnight with a pinch of baking soda. Once the lentils bloom, release the water. Fill the part with fresh water(enough water to cover the gram completely and 1 inch above it). Boil the gram with a small onion ( cut into four parts) and salt until soft. You can also do pressure kicks. You should have a gram pea in a thick gravy and finally dissolved onion.
